Perpyrakis is a household name in Rethymnon and is synonymous with “quality jewellery.” The history of our shop begins with Vasilios Perpyrakis in 1870, after his repatriation from Smyrna, where he learnt the secrets of the gold and silversmith’s art in a business run by a relative. The year in which he established his shop in Rethymnon is confirmed by his handwritten debit-credit ledger in which every transaction is recorded in all its detail. Although there is evidence that the shop was established several years earlier, this cannot be confirmed by the inadequate state organisation of the time (Ottoman rule). In the difficult years which followed, several members of the family worked at the workshop and at the shop.
Today’s owner belongs to the fourth generation – Apostolos V. Perpyrakis, who with the invaluable assistance of his wife, Georgia, continues the family tradition by running two shops in Rethymnon on Crete, in which they offer a considerable selection of 22, 18 and 14 carat jewellery set with precious stones, watches by TAG Heuer, Michel Herbelin, Frederique Constant, Boucheron and Casio, as well as silver objects and jewellery.
The establishment of the e-shop will hopefully bring us into closer contact with our numerous friends both throughout Greece and abroad. Naturally, all of our merchandise is accompanied by the required certification. It is, of course, impossible to put on show all of our collection. We have made a selection based on latest fashion trends and customer requirements. If anyone wishes to see an item which is not among those on show, we shall be more than happy to send a further selection by e-mail. Please feel free to contact us for any clarification.
